Make My Iced Matcha Latte!

This iced matcha latte is my favorite midday pick-me-up to boost my energy especially when the weather is warm. And on colder days, I skip the ice and just have a warm Matcha Latte. Itโs something I order all the time at coffee shops, so I learned to make it at home and probably even better!
What I love about matcha is that it has a unique form of caffeine that can actually give you a sustained release of energy that doesnโt give you the jitters. So while I drink coffee every morning, I personally go for a matcha latte, iced or warm when I feel like a second cup of caffeine.
Happy Cooking!

Iced Matcha Latte Ingredients

- Matcha green tea powder: Youโll need just a teaspoon of matcha for this recipe. I recommend using ceremonial grade matcha, which is of the highest quality and has the most delicate flavor.
- Milk: I love oat milk in my iced matcha latte, but you can use any type of milk that you like. Soy, almond, and coconut milk are all delicious options.
- Honey: Just a touch of honey helps to balance out the bitterness of the matcha. If you donโt want to use honey, you can try agave nectar or even a little bit of sugar or skip it.
- Ice: To keep your latte cold.
- Water: Youโll need to mix the matcha powder with warm water to make a tea before adding it to the milk.
Popular Additions
- Coffee. You can use regular coffee or decaffeinated here if youโre worried about too much caffeine. But the flavor of matcha and coffee go so well together.
- Cinnamon or cardamom. Sprinkle a pinch into the milk for a cozy spiced vibe.
- Strawberry Puree. A layered strawberry matcha latte is sweet, tangy, and super aesthetic especially for Instagram like this Strawberry Matcha Latte that was trending!
How to Make Iced Matcha Latte

Recipe Tips
- Make sure to use a frother, electric whisk, or bamboo brush. The key to smooth and delicious matcha is making sure itโs not clumpy because the last thing you want is a sip of powdery green stuff.
- Start slowly with the matcha amounts. The recommended serving is one teaspoon. But if youโre apprehensive about the taste, try it with just half a teaspoon to help get used to the taste.
- Use high-quality matcha. Not all matcha is created equal! Ceremonial grade matcha is the best quality and has the most delicate flavor. It can be a bit pricey, but itโs worth it if youโre looking for the best iced matcha latte experience.
Recipe Help & FAQs
Itโs best to enjoy an iced matcha latte right when you make it. But in the case you made too much, you can store it in the fridge. Youโll want to keep it separated from the milk until youโre ready to drink it. If the milk and the matcha have already been combined, it will last in the fridge for up to 12 hours. But if youโve stored them separately, the matcha will last up to 24 hours.
If your matcha latte is too strong, you can add more milk or water to dilute it. Remember, if youโre new to matcha, start off with just half a teaspoon and work your way up to one teaspoon.

Could I use a Shaker cup (like Blender Bottle) to mix the Matcha, or does it need to be something electric? Thank you! (And you need to come to Atlanta to sign cookbooks!) ๐
Hmm, I havenโt tried that myself, so Iโm not sure. Iโd love to hear how it turns out if you end up trying it!
This is better that any place that sells coffee and tea drinks. I was spending $8.00 a day. Now I make it at home! This recipe is the same the coffee shops use. Very easy to make and so good!!
Thank you so much, Janice! So glad youโre enjoying the recipe and saving some money!
There appear to be two different recipes on this page. One calls for two tablespoons of water, while the other one calls for four ounces. Is
more water required when using honey?
Hi Joanne, follow the directions in the recipe card. It seems that the honey and water was accidently omitted from the instructions in the middle of the post. Iโve fixed that now.
Hi, I have been wanting to make this for a while, I have been told that you need it get good quality matcha, can you send me the link to one you would recommend please? Thanks
I canโt wait for you to make this latte! This is the matcha I used: https://amzn.to/3znfFA5
Refreshing and delicious! Might I ask what particular brand of oat milk you prefer? Iโve tried a few different brands, flavor is fine but not a fan of the texture. Thank you!!
Thank you! The Elmhurst Plant-Based Milk has been great in this recipe.

Are you sure there is so much sugar in this recipe? 36g sound a lot
Thank you for pointing that out! There could be that much sugar in this latte depending on what kind of oat milk you use, but most generic oat milks donโt have that much sugar in it, so I have changed the nutrition information to accurately reflect that.
